Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program
Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) delivers food and nutrition education to low-income families and youth to improve their diets and increase their skills in preparing nutritious and economical meals. EFNEP agents and paraprofessionals conduct food safety outreach and cooking demonstrations for clients and homemakers throughout American Samoa. EFNEP nutrition classes teach families and youth how to cook healthy meals at home, be more active, save money on food costs, and handle food safely. Through these activities, EFNEP Educators help families and youth adopt positive health behaviors to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
EFNEP Objectives
To assist families and youth in acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes and practices necessary for nutritionally sound diets
To contribute to their personal development and the improvement of the total family diet and nutritional well-being
