Oceania Tautua 4-H Charter Club and STEAM Expo

The American Samoa Community College (ASCC) – Agriculture, Community and Natural Resources (ACNR) Division 4-H Program, in collaboration with the Oceania Tautua 4-H Club and several partner agencies, recently hosted a STEAM Summer Expo event at the Great Life United 684 Assembly of God Church in Leone. The Oceania Tautua 4-H Club also received its 4-H Club Charter at the Expo.

The STEAM Summer Expo was a collaborative event among the Oceania Community Development Network, AS Department of Education, AS Department of Commerce, Amerika Samoa Council on Arts, Culture, and Humanities and the ASCC-ACNR 4-H Program. Expo participants included several partner agencies, educators, students, youth and parents. Students performed skits and conducted presentations during the expo. Participants were able to engage with various STEAM interactive activities and booths. Several booths also showcased arts and crafts such as elei. The event concluded with the presentation of an official 4-H Charter certificate by the ASCC-ACNR 4-H Agent Toepo Leiataua to the Oceania Tautua 4-H Club Leader Edna Noga.

“With the 4-H Charter provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and signed by the Secretary of Agriculture’s designated representative, the Oceania Tautua 4-H Club is an officially recognized 4-H Club and is authorized to use the 4-H Name and Emblem,” said ASCC-ACNR Extension 4-H Agent Toepo Leiataua.

The 4-H Youth Development Program is the youth outreach program from the ASCC-ACNR Extension Program. The 4-H’s are head, heart, hands, and health and the program seeks to promote positive youth development, facilitate learning and engage youth in the work of their community through the Extension Program to enhance the quality of life.

“At ASCC-ACNR, we strongly believe in empowering and educating the youth of American Samoa,” said ASCC-ACNR Extension Coordinator and 4-H Youth Development Program Manager Tialavea Molly Asifoa-Lagai. “It is through the 4-H program and clubs that we provide positive youth development opportunities to meet the needs of young people and to further their development as self-directing, contributing, and productive members of society."
